Patient Fees

Darwin Private Hospital has agreements with most of the major health funds.  Please ensure that you understand your responsibility for any costs you may incur and that your health fund does not cover.  The administrative staff will be happy to discuss fee structure with you at any time.  All out-of-pocket expenses are to be paid for on admission.  EFTPOS, Visa and MasterCard facilities are available and fees may apply to credit card transactions.

If you do not have private health insurance please contact the Front Office Manager prior to your admission to obtain an estimate of the cost of your stay.  Your account must be paid in full on admission.

Your hospital account may consist of the following items:

  • Theatre fees
  • Accommodation
  • Phone calls

Your hospital account will not include:

  • Your doctor's account
  • Your anaesthetist's account
  • Radiology, pathology or other allied health services

Please consult with your health fund to determine if your contract provides coverage for these items.

Private room requests are at an additional expense to the patient.

If you have a pre-existing ailment, have joined your health fund within the last twelve months or have changed the level of your cover or fund, you should contact the fund to verify that you are insured for the treatment you need.

Darwin Private Hospital is a DVA 'Tier 1' preferred provider.  This allows Gold cardholder’s to be admitted without prior approval (except dental and cosmetic procedures).  Prior approval is required for all white and orange card holders.

Department of Veteran's Affairs patients may request a visit from their local RSL representative.  Please discuss your needs with your attending nurse who can arrange for this on your behalf.  We also provide help and support through our Veteran Liaison Officer.
